Upright meaning
A figure sits up in bed and covers their face while nine swords line the darkness above. The card reflects the weight of thoughts that have no outlet: fear, self-reproach, and imagined futures. The distress is real, even when the feared events are not certain to occur.
Reversed keywords
Speaking about distress, or hiding anxiety
Reversed meaning
Someone may seek help or begin to challenge an unfounded thought, or continue suffering in silence. Reversal cannot diagnose whether a mental-health condition is more or less severe.
