Upright meaning
The Devil exposes unseen bargains that make people feel they have no choice: habits, shame, material conditions, or power. Two chained figures wear loose collars, suggesting the possibility of recognizing and changing the bond. Desire itself is not condemned; the question is whether desire serves a life or rules it.
