THE 78 CARDS · RESEARCH NOTES
Meaning & symbolism
Traditional Rider–Waite–Smith symbolism and an editorial Royal / Dragon adaptation for this card.
Upright keywords
Security · holding resources · control · material boundaries
Upright meaning
A seated figure clutches a pentacle, wears one above the head, and pins two beneath the feet. The card expresses the wish to preserve and protect what has been acquired. Caution may be reasonable, yet when every point of contact is occupied by money, little else can move.
Reversed keywords
Releasing control · overspending · an entrenched fear of scarcity
Reversed meaning
Someone may learn to share without losing security, or spend out of anxiety. Ask which boundaries protect life and which have become a cage.
RWS image & symbols
Four pentacles occupy head, chest, and both feet, commanding thought, feeling, and movement; the city behind the figure suggests separation from society; the still pose reinforces self-containment; crown and rich clothing link possession with identity.
Reader's lens
Saving money is not automatically selfish. Distinguish a healthy emergency reserve from anxiety that prevents living.
Royal / Dragon adaptation
Seat a royal figure on a platform with exactly four pentacles arranged 1 + 1 + 2. Make both feet plausible despite the coins beneath them.
